Cheaper computer-use agents, plus small models you can actually download and run locally. Two releases worth a look if you’re building AI into your own tools. 👀
GPT-6.1 Terra lands with lower API prices
OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra on Monday, aimed at visual reasoning, computer use and writing. Think reading an invoice and entering its details into another app, or working through forms on screen.
Standard API pricing is $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 for cached input and $5 for output. That’s half the standard input and output prices of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. The API model name is gpt-6.1-terra.
It’s also rolling out in ChatGPT Work and Codex on eligible paid plans, with access depending on your plan and workspace settings. Your overall plan limits haven’t increased; OpenAI says the same allowance goes further with Terra. For the hardest coding jobs, it still points people towards Sol or Astra.
Liquid’s LFM3 gives local apps text, vision and audio options
Liquid AI released LFM3 on Tuesday: a downloadable family of roughly 2B-parameter models covering text, images, video, audio and decision tasks. Pick the version for what your app needs.
The text model, LFM3-1.7B, supports tool calling, structured outputs and a 256K context window. Liquid puts its 4-bit model memory at about 1 GB, though your running app and context need extra memory. There are GGUF builds for local tools and MLX weights for Apple Silicon.
Possible builds: a local assistant that calls your app’s tools, an image-based document helper, or a voice interface using the audio model. Liquid also provides single-GPU fine-tuning examples for adapting the models to your own tasks.
A couple of details before you build around it: the text model isn’t recommended for complex agentic coding, and these are open weights under the LFM Open License v1.0. Commercial use has a $10 million annual company-revenue threshold, after which a separate licence is required.
